Re-imagining Beauty: My Experience Shooting for Dove & Getty Images

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a photographer is the opportunity to tell meaningful stories through images. Over the years, my work with Getty Images has taken me to incredible places, allowing me to collaborate with a variety of brands. But one of the most unexpected—and truly exciting—opportunities came when I was invited to work with Dove.

Dove has long been a brand I deeply admire. Their mission to challenge conventional beauty norms and reshape how the media portrays women is something I wholeheartedly support. Through their campaigns, they’ve shed light on how self-hatred and body dysmorphia are learned behaviors, not something we are born with. They’ve made it their mission to create representation that reflects real women—without AI, any post-processing or retouching. As part of this commitment, they’ve built a special Getty Images library featuring authentic content created by women and female-identifying photographers, showcasing real beauty in its many forms.

A Global Project to Celebrate Real Women

At the end of 2023, Getty approached 36 female photographers from around the world to take part in a special project with Dove, celebrating 20 years of redefining beauty. Each of us was tasked with capturing the essence of remarkable women in our communities—women whose journeys of self-love, resilience, and acceptance could inspire others

More than just a photoshoot, this was an opportunity to interview these women, listen to their stories, and translate their experiences into powerful imagery. It was an honour to be entrusted with these stories, to learn about their personal battles against impossible beauty standards, and to see the strength and confidence they had reclaimed for themselves.

Seeing the Impact Come to Life

Once we submitted our images and stories, we were told they would be used as part of Dove’s campaign—but nothing quite prepared me for what came next. A few months later, I received an incredible book packed with these women’s stories and the stunning imagery captured by female creators across the world. Seeing the impact of this project laid out in print was overwhelming. It was a celebration of real, unfiltered beauty—a reminder of why I do what I do.

Being part of something so much bigger than myself, something that aligns so closely with my own passion for authentic storytelling and representation, is one of the greatest joys of my career.

This project is more than just another shoot—it is a movement, and I feel truly privileged to have played a role in it.
