As a photographer, I love working with athletes, brand ambassadors, and influencers—not just because of what they do, but because of who they are. Tash is the perfect example of this. She’s a pro surfer, brand ambassador, and content creator, but beyond that, she’s someone who lives and breathes her sport and her community. Watching her surf is something else—her passion, skill, and dedication have taken her all over the world, not just to compete but also to coach and mentor other surfers.
I’m forever grateful for how much Tash has taught me about surf photography—how to read the ocean, anticipate the waves, and position myself in the water to get the best shots.
Tash creates most of her own social media content, but when she’s in the water, she needs someone else behind the lens. While competitions and events sometimes have photographers on-site, it’s not always guaranteed—so every now and then, I get to be the one in the action, capturing her ripping on her surfboard.
Recently, Roxy, one of the brands she represents, sent her some stunning new apparel, and she asked me to do a lifestyle shoot to highlight the collection. We planned an early morning session at a local tidal pool and beach, known for its incredible sunrise light. The 5:00 AM start was no problem, but nature had its own plans—the sky was covered in clouds, which meant we wouldn’t get the warm, golden tones we originally envisioned. But as it turned out, the soft, moody light gave us a completely different, yet equally stunning, aesthetic. And as the morning went on, the sun peeked through just enough to give us a beautiful variety of shots.
Working with Tash is always a fun, creative experience. She’s kind, energetic, and full of ideas, and that’s one of my favorite things about working with sports professionals and brand ambassadors—they bring passion and creativity to the table, and together, we create unique, engaging content that truly connects with people.
The best shoots always happen when there’s a balance of planning, spontaneity, and collaboration—and every time I work with Tash, the results are better than I could have imagined.
